Design of new organic sensitizers for photovoltaic devices

The  project focuses on the application of an interdisciplinary approach for the preparation of new molecular components to be employed for the production of optimized dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) in terms of efficiency and stability and that could be competitive compared to those currently available on the market. This approach will be based on the possibility to synergically exploit modern computational chemistry methods, innovative synthetic routes and advanced physico-chemical techniques. These, along with the spectro-, photo- and electrochemical characterization of designed and synthesised compounds, the electrical characterization of manufactures cells will allow the development of an accurate protocol for the study and design of new molecular compounds to be employed in photovoltaic cells and for the evaluation of environmental impacts connected to the use of DSSCs.
