Over the past ten years, scientific and technological advances have established biocatalysis as a practical and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional metallo and organocatalysis in chemical synthesis, both in the laboratory and on an industrial scale. Different enzymes belonging to the classes of oxidoreductases and hydrolases are under study for the production of different products like textile bio-dyes. To use these enzymes in green chemistry, different immobilization techniques have been developed based on the use of nanofiber and ordered mesoporous materials. The Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) is used to address the environmental benefits in respect to the traditional approach.
