From photovoltaic energy to smart grid optimization

The principal aim of the project is to formulate optimization propositions for the integration of the electric energy  which is produced, through distributed generation, by the photovoltaic installations, in the Italian power grid (and in an hypothetical super-national Smart Grid). The research project will conduct a multi-scale analyses of the available data-warehouses concerning the photovoltaic sector. The obtained data will be used to define a hierarchy of generation-attraction models in order to determine, under proper assumptions, how electric energy generated in a distributed way would flow in the national power-grid. Methods and models derived from complex network science, statistical mechanics and information theory will be used.
