Hsp90, HDAC6 and neurodegeneration

Direct inhibition of heat shock protein-90 and its indirect inhibition via histone deacetylase-6 (HDAC6) inhibition have recently been  identified as a novel therapeutic opportunity  for neurodegenerative disorders. Inhibition of both targets has, as a result, the production of neuroprotective chaperons such as Hsp70 and Hsp40. The development of Hsp90 inhibitors and selective HDAC6 inhibitors represents the object of this research activity.
